Nah, I don’t agree with your simplistic narrative at all. This is a proxy war between NATO and Russia where NATO is cynically using Ukraine instead of doing its own fighting. The fact that anybody. genuinely believes that the west is “helping” Ukraine is absolutely hilarious.
Ensuring that Ukraine is destroyed while hundreds of thousands of people die, and millions more have their lives ruined is an interesting way to help. This whole war could’ve been over in a negotiated settlement two months in. The west forced Ukraine to keep fighting, and it’s the reason the war continues. During that time the situation for Ukraine has continuously deteriorated, and at the end of all this there might not be any Ukraine left. With friends like these, who needs enemies.

In Ukraine the polling data correlates with Russia’s annexation of Crimea because the month before annexation Ukrainians had no desire to join NATO and the month after annexation majority Ukrainians wanted to join NATO. NATO expansions happen in response to the bullying by Russia. The whole “NATO shouldn’t expand east” is Russian talking point so Russia could continue bullying it’s neighbors.
