I will never stop being sad over when the Primus website stopped being primussucks.com for primusville or what the fuck ever.

Real heads remember that “Primus sucks” is the clarion call of people who fucking love Primus.

Does Weird Al count? Because he is just as talented as any “serious” musician.

Also, The Presidents of the United States of America.

Unlike the other bands listed in this thread, Weird Al manages to rock even when he’s covering other musical genres!

There’s also songs that may have been initially inspired by a certain other artist but strayed far enough to be basically completely original, such as Albuquerque and (possibly my favorite Weird Al song of them all) Hardware Store.

Not to mention the polkas, which is what I really had in mind when I was talking about him making other genres rock.

I was waiting for someone to say TPUSA. Their entire first album is basically the answer to this question.

Also, The Presidents of the United States of America.

The song “More Bad Times” came on my Spotify radio playlist a few years back. I had never heard the song before. I was dying of laughter. I was not at all prepared for a song that silly.

Man, that’s just wacky to see those bands in one sentence in reference to rocking and being silly. You’re not wrong.

One of my favorites - Frank Zappa’s Apostrophe / Overnight Sensation.

Bloodhound Gang, Blink 182, Sum 41, Sublime, Men Without Hats, They Might Be Giants, Tenacious D, Ugly Kid Joe, Green Jelly / Jello, The Dead Milkmen, Dee Lite, Squeeze.

Peter Gabriel era Genesis was pretty goofy, as well as some of his solo stuff.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is pretty much the goofiest band known to man right now; especially if you listen to their earlier stuff like Cellophane or Vegemite.

Devin Townsend. Saw him live, warming up for Dream Theater, in 2022. In addition to providing a kickass set, it was hilarious.

Example I dug out of my phone: https://files.catbox.moe/jdmyd6.mp4

    Found one more: https://files.catbox.moe/0qb70t.mp4

Fun fact: My employer paid for my plane ticket and hotel stay that evening. It “just so happened” that I had something to do at the head office at the same time my two favorite artists were performing nearby… sure, I had something work-related to do, but my timing was no accident.

UPDATE: Looks like Dream Theater will be in the area again in November. Sounds like it’s time for a department-wide meeting, don’t you think?

Mr Bungle. The singer from faith no more. Apparently he liked hiding his turds in ventilation ducs in the hotels while he was on tour. Also made fun of the other lead singer of RHCP.

That’s because Anthony Kiedis thought very little of Mike Patton around the time of “Epic” I don’t know if they ever settled on the matter.

He thought Mike Patton was biting his style! I recently watched the video for Epic and I can kind of see what Kiedis is saying but honestly RHCP never had a hit like Epic before it was released. Mother’s Milk was released a few months later.

Blink 182 as well! Though I’m not much a fan of mark anymore as he’s some sort of pawn for the US govt uap topic imo

I honestly think their version is not as good as Toto’s. Their cover closely matches the style of the original and they aren’t as good musicians. I was hoping they would make it a Weezer style cover. Toto’s version of Hash Pipe is better than Weezer’s too.

…mainly because of Weird Al, which was coincidentally going to be my answer to OP’s question.
