yeah but for that the corporate dogs that enforce those rules have to feel like enforcing the rules
so far the worst thing that’s happened is an abortion ban
lol. we torture minorities in our prisons for being impoverished and refuse to prioritize the value of water over the value of oil executive profits. torturing women for daring to try to be equals is single head on our hydra of exploitative torture. it was 160 years since emancipation last year. there are people alive still who had peopl in their life who were owned.
The worst thing to happen in the last 10 years was trump trying to over throw democracy
the worst thing about the last ten years that incetivizes people to rupture the system for profit rather than to address the potential for someone to do that because the people holding power would rather rely on precedent than lose a single iota of power
you’re getting gish galloped i think. this other person is just gonna keep pulling you further and further from the actual problem, which is that this problem is not unique to just one state and requires systemic change throughout the nation to fix
they’re agreeing with you and taking it further, i’m pretty sure
read up to date current docs and know they are for the current working state of the system, potentially when i don’t have a net connection because i’m troubleshooting PID 0/1
turkeys straight up fly, they’re not even semi flighted like chickens
that’s a great example of bad docs.
this is everything i see monitoring Linux boxes everyday. we’ve shifted mostly to OpenRC about it. i can’t imagine defending SystemD if you have experienced anything other than it and SysInitV. yeah compared to SysInitV, it’s really nice, but to say it’s good and stable? that’s like praising your landlord for all the work they do and the reason they haven’t fixed your broken dishwasher is because they’re so busy from what a good landlord they are
In fact, the situation has gotten much worse. The coupling of SystemD’s components to each other has gotten tighter. The coupling of things that aren’t SystemD to SystemD has gotten tighter. SystemD itself has gotten less stable. The overall result? Our operating systems require more, not less, troubleshooting, and they’re less, not more, enjoyable to use and develop on
SystemD has been such a frustration the last couple years with the wonderful simplicity and stability it used to provide managing a system completely out the door as its main development company (RedHat) has stopped giving any kind of a shit about being a positive force in the world. We all shoulda listened 10 years ago when the greybeards were telling us not to fall for an init system trying to do too much.
no actually. i don’t see how my view that people are all people and the things we do is all in response to the context we grow up in is stupid. so please keep listing places that we have both the potential to improve or to degrade into depending on what actions we take and if we can learn to empathize
I’ve spent a lifetime traveling the united states. i originate from Appalachia. bad and racist judgements come all across the country. any state with the death penalty on the books will eventually do this, and any state that doesn’t have the death penalty on the books has around 30% of people minimum who think it should be. you’re deluding yourself if you don’t think everywhere is like everywhere else just with different ratios of who is around
Missouri isn’t so different from everywhere else
what are you talking about?
Do you… Actually think that’s what the right wing wants to tear down the US to do? Because it isn’t. Not even a little. They want to plunge the world into fire
Yeah which if that’s the argument we’re having… I kinda don’t want to give people that dumb any influence. The fediverse symbol is not a pentagram and if the rainbow giving gay people visibility is somehow wrong, then… Fuck me I guess because I’d rather make gay people comfortable than a bunch of folks who’ve fallen down some manner of christofascist rabbit hole
The weak argument they make is this doesn’t look good at small sizes. Personally I don’t think that constitutes a good enough reason to rebrand the fediverse
Yup. A lot of people don’t vote because they don’t feel heard. Well. We have a major opportunity right now with how unpopular Donald Trump is and his violent his band of weirdos are about to get. We can get in president Harris and then make ourselves heard as we stand against the violent weirdos. We can say “we the people of the united states of america don’t stand for this nonsense. We don’t stand for violence being what decides everything. We will resist violence with violence if we must, but we will not allow ourselves to rule with or be ruled by it. If we are going to continue living on this earth we must dismantle the global system of torture we live under and for good. The people of Palestine need to be free. The people of Africa can’t constantly be at civil war for what’s left of the resources we stole from them. And the Russian Federation cannot continue to be allowed to interfere in elections across the globe”
Harris has made it clear she is willing to court us, willing to be seen listening to us, but she is not willing to like us or be of us. That’s fine. Joe Biden has called himself a transition president. Perhaps Kamala will be, too. We just have to show that this matters to us, and that there’s too many of us to stop the movement.
I said in another comment that I see Harris as riding a wave of optimism, not as driving it. Well? We are that wave! It would be irresponsible for us to let her ride that wave into the white house without benefit to who’s doing it. We must demand what we deserve from all this:
i think some big project, something really important, needs to migrate for the masses of devs to move too
