Are you gatekeeping gatekeeping-gatekeeping now?
Mom! Look! Moooom! Moooooom! Look, I am in this! Mooom! You’re not looking! Moooom! Look!
Are we gate-keeping meme usage now?
I deleted nur Facebook Account sometime ago. I cleanly left all groups, “unfriended” all accounts (most of those were inactive anyways) and removed all my comments and media from over a decade.
I don’t think I lost anything.
My timeline was full of advertising or bot post or mirrored content already available on other platforms. The only real interactions were in the comments and ever there it was soulless.
That’s great about the Fediverse, the different bubbles are much smaller but much, mich more personal and connected.
I wasn’t active there before that. To me Reddit just got more and more and more annoying over the last few years.
“Recreational” communities were banned, technical communities were flooded with only slightly related nonsense, meme and fun communities felt just dumb. A lot of communities als felt unfriendly and unwelcoming. Not within two days, but it eroded over the years.
At one point it felt like a burden to go through my subscribed communities feed. So I stopped using Reddit entirely during the protests and disabled my account (and it wasn’t re-enabled by Reddit to prevent loss of users) and I do not miss it one single second.
During web research I sometimes get a Reddit result. I change to old.reddit.com
URL (I have a strict ruleset regarding cookies and JS and the normal Reddit is just shows an error message and I am not willing to change my configuration) to get the information, but that’s it. Neither do I interact with anything nor do I use any type of account.
Choose whatever fits you
And stick to it! Also make sure other participants also adhere to that. Optionally configure a linter for doing that.
I never looked into flatseal and I don’t have any issues with Steam. But I wonder if flatseal can allow a Flatpak Java application to run systemctl poweroff
.
No thank you, no kids.
I like my freedom and that it is quiet.
Why deliberately go into vendor lock-in?
Good e-mails in general! People have forgotten (over never learned) how to properly write and answer mails.
I dislike touching people or being touched. Not that I have a phobia is suffer from, I just don’t like it and try to avoid it when possible. So no, I am not physically affectionate with other friends (male or female alike).
Before there was a pandemic, touching people for welcome or goodbye was common (i.e “shaking hands”). But fortunately this is no longer the case. There are still some disrespectful and non-considerate persons around who want to touch you just to say hello, but they’re in the minority.
Maybe let go of this ancient hardware? Seriously: Get a Raspberry Pi (or whatever SOC computer is the latest trend) and install whatever distribution you want. You get 100x the performance for 100x less power consumption. It’s great to reuse old hardware and all, but THAT old?
Take more or less of the stuff you’re taking. The current amount is wrong.
Whenever AI is mentioned lots of people in the Linux space immediately react negatively.
Because whenever AI is mentioned it usually isn’t even close to what AI meant.
So, what’s your reason to not drive a car
I simply don’t need to, nor do I want to. I live in a country with good public transport - in a city with comparably well working public transport. There simply is no need for me. There never was.
I can get around the city either by train (“normal” trains and subways) or by bus. On weekends there is a 24 service for all trains and subways every 8-20 minutes (depending on line). There are also night busses connecting party areas with the nearest train stations and the inner city with the outskirts.
In the mornings and afternoons on weekdays there are additional commuter busses and trains and subways on most lines so the service is scheduled on a minute basis on some lines for some time during rush hours. The “worst” it gets is every 30 minutes in the middle of the night.
And if I don’t want to take public transport I can always use my bike or my electric scooter. The bike lanes are not Netherlands quality, but they’re okay. It’s also fun to drive by traffic jam having my inner monologue making fun of alle the people waiting hours over hours on the streets 😄
The great thing is: Some time ago the government and the individual public transport providers of the cities and areas made a country-wide ticket for all public transport. So I can just hop on a bus in my city, drive to the train station, enter a regional train that goes to another city in another federal state, come out the train station and take the nearest bus I want without having to pay anything except the monthly fee for the ticket or checking if the ticket is valid in that area.
When I want to take longer trips further away I’ll likely take a train on our highspeed railway network covering basically the whole country (not covered by the ticket I mentioned). It’s notorious for being delayed or having issues, but my individual experience is much better than in the memes that exist.
FTFY :)
I once put an HDD into a completely new machine with all new hardware (same architecture, though), and it booted without any issues whatsoever. Must be 15-20 years ago but I still remember the new machine.
Linux always was exceptionally great when it comes to hardware changes after installation.
