I think when you read that article it’s important to think critically about how it’s composed. I am as anti-trump as the next European “centrist dad”, but nothing I read there made me think he went out of his way to tell that story unprompted. I imagine he was interviewed, said a bunch of stuff, and then someone cherry-picked the quotes they needed to support the narrative of the article… You can’t just take it at face value!?

In the UK I think there’s a scheme where you register your bike and engrave a serial number on the frame somewhere, so if it turns up stolen it’s easier to prove/legitimate sellers won’t buy it off thieves. Don’t know how well it works personally.

Perhaps instead of clients using two different security systems, Crowd strike and similar companies could have two or more completely independent teams sending out separate versions of their hourly updates. That way when something like this happens it would likely not bring down all of a client’s systems, and help resilience? It could be made into a requirement for providing security software to critical/strategic industries like healthcare, power transmission/distribution, defense, etc.

Tea-bag tea first thing in the morning, strong, with milk. Light/medium-roast speciality filter coffee with breakfast, or mid-morning. If I’m having another caffeine drink in the afternoon it would ideally be nice leaf tea, black, green or oolong definitely without milk. But if I’m at work or out and about sometimes just another mug of tea-bag tea.

A lot of old hard rock and metal with power chords is easy to play a simplified version of. I think Metallica - ‘For whom the bell tolls’ and ‘Enter Sandman’ were probably the first things I learnt. You can learn enough to have fun playing a riff like that even if you struggle to get your hand into position to do proper 6-string chords.

Having a cold shower at the end is probably number 1 if I made a list of things I do right in life that most people don’t do. I feel so clean and comfortable for ages afterwards, no matter if I’m in my house or the middle of the forest, summer or winter. Best thing my dad ever taught me. What is funny? Jokes are weird to think about, but it generally relies on setting up an expectation and then surprising us in some way. Here it’s that when he uses the phrase ‘a perfect ten’, we assume he’s referring to a highly attractive (adult) woman, then in the next panel we see he means ten as an age, which gives our brains a little stumble, a mismatch between the pattern we were expecting/predicting and what happend. For some reason, this little thing of setting up am expectation then subverting it tickles our brain in a way that makes it a joke. Having the reveal also be a topic like child rape that is so taboo and so unacceptable just increases this effect of how unexpected it is, this is generally what ‘dark humour’ is going for (works for some people, for others it just takes it too far, to where their emotions/associations about the bad thing far outweigh any humour, and put them into a state where they’re not really able to find anything funny). Anyway, you don’t have to like it, but it seems pointless to try to argue that certain subjects are not suitable for jokes. Some people like these jokes, you don’t, and that by itself doesn’t make either of you bad people.
