As I understand it, Texas republicans pushed to privatize the state’s electrical grid, and allow “provider choice” in way that has led to extreme profit-taking by private entities and reduced any investment in infrastructure. This contributed to the extremely high prices that some Texans have been paying in the winter, as well as more frequent and sever outages.

We could consider this a bailout because private entities sucked all the money out of the system, and now the federal government is investing to try and get it into a working state again.

Why do they have to be this way? What happened to these Republicans? Are they genuinely held beliefs or is it all just opportunism?

To be pedantic, as Chair of the FTC, Ms. Khan isn’t a cabinet member. The FTC is an independent agency, which exists outside of the executive branch’s departments. The heads of the departments are cabinet members. Think: DOJ, DOD, State, Agriculture, Interior, Education, Energy, Treasury, etc.

I grow pawpaws on Long Island. They’re delicious. It’s sad to hear that climate change is affecting them, too. The tree looks tropical and the fruit tastes tropical because they evolved when the climate here was warmer and wetter. The flowers are meant for flies, beetles, and ants because bees didn’t exist back then! Hopefully new varieties can be developed that will handle climate changes.

I think they see it on tv shows or social media influencers, where it allows both sides of a conversation to be heard by the audience. And if TV or Kim Kardashian does it, it must be cool, right?

I live in NYC. As is tradition, no one likes the mayor. Though this one is among the worst in recent history.

Being mayor of a city like this is so far away from my capabilities. I think you need to be kind of sociopathic or narcissistic to believe you can do this job.
