The clouds of radioactive gases carry radiated dust particles that are carried by winds and settle on the ground, roofs, etc (fallout). That’s why after Chernobyl or the Japanese cities were attacked it was very important which way the wind was pushing the clouds carrying the tiny debris, ash, and dust and how the Chernobyl disaster was detected by other countries in the path.

You probably also want to avoid trying to grow any crops in the area because one way to deal with the radioactive dust is to bury it under the top soil, and buildings that have been closed since Chernobyl that still have the dust trapped inside are still very dangerous.

If the only point you’d contest is the after Crimea part Ukraine being too poor to do it I’d suggest allies that also signed the memorandum should be helping provide supplies and technical support. I don’t think Ukraine owning nuclear weapons would result in a nuclear war because it’s the same deterrent preventing Russia from using them themselves today.

Ukraine should have reestablished their nuclear weapons program and received supplies/support from allies after Crimea and again after Putin’s 3 day war was repelled and the nonproliferation treaty under the Budapest Memorandum was violated by Russia. The only language dictators care to understand is violence or the threat of violence.

That’s just because they still feel safe in public bigotry against trans folks. They still have all the old bigotries too; Muslims, atheists, gays, non protestant/evangelical Christians, black people, etc they just know if they come out publically against those demographics they’ll never win an election. So they use coded language, instead of the n word in public they say DEI, diversity, urban, etc. When ranting against trans folks in public they try to equivocate how people dress with being overtly sexual because that’s the same bs their pastor or political leader told them to think. The reason they scapegoat trans folks is because they are rare so most people especially in low population rural areas don’t have any trans friends or interact with trans folks on a regular basis to correct the isolationist demonization pushed by many churches and political conservatives.

I have assumed it was because of traditional shipping channels going through there so pirates and criminals would be waiting to intercept cargo ships in the area. Like highwayman waiting along the road outside of the range of the police of nearby towns or cities. Ships disappear so people make up stories about why.
